for the
15th Annual Grin & Barrett Charity Ride
July 28, 2018

The Black Canyon Buttkicker Charity Ride is held annually in Montrose, Colorado, to support patient wellness through San Juan Healthcare and the Caring Friends Fund.  In 2004, a group of riding enthusiasts and passionate men banded together in a unique show of support.  While their friend, Tom Barrett, was in Denver going through the hardest part of his fight with colon cancer, the gang devised a plan to put themselves through a sufferable journey on their bicycles.  One would agree that riding 150 miles, through three counties, in the heat of July...well, let's just say at some point in that ride you're going to suffer.  More on the story of how "The Buttkicker" was launched can be found here and here.
There are SIX ride options!  Choose YOUR challenge!

The 33, 50and 75 mile rides loop around the communities of Montrose and Olathe. Our 75 mile ride now includes our local cyclists' favorite climb into the beautiful Black Canyon National Park!   Mass start time at 7:30 a.m.  from The Red Arrow Inn.

The BC50 (otherwise known as "The Dam Hotchkiss Ride") and the 115 mile Alpine Bank Buttkicker (individual/team/tour) take you from the dam at Blue Mesa Reservoir to Hotchkiss or Montrose, respectively. Transportation to the dam departs from The Red Arrow Inn at 6:00 a.m.  The BC50 riders must arrive in Hotchkiss no later than 11:30 for return transportation to Montrose.  Riders will have a running clock, with chip timing, from start to finish line.  These options are extremely challenging and demand strong, experienced riders be in top shape.
All rides are supported!
Aid stations, limited mechanical assistance and SAG vehicles are provided along every route.  See course maps for aid station locations.  Below are times during which each station is operational:

Hermits Point (BC50/115):  Open 7:30-10:00 a.m.
Bank of Colorado, Hotchkiss (BC50/115): Aid closes at 12:00 noon
(Water Stations provided between Hotchkiss and Delta)
Delta Alpine Bank (115):  Aid closes at 1:30 p.m.
Pea Green (33/50/BC75): Open at 8:30
Olathe Town Park (all rides):  Open 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
