14th Annual Grin & Barrett Charity Ride
July 29, 2017
The Black Canyon Buttkicker Charity Ride is held annually in Montrose, Colorado, to support patient wellness through San Juan Healthcare and the Caring Friends Fund. In 2004, a group of riding enthusiasts and passionate men banded together in a unique show of support. While their friend, Tom Barrett, was in Denver going through the hardest part of his fight with colon cancer, the gang devised a plan to put themselves through a sufferable journey on their bicycles. One would agree that riding 150 miles, through three counties, in the heat of July...well, let's just say at some point in that ride you're going to suffer. More on the story of how "The Buttkicker" was launched can be found hereandhere.
There are SEVEN ride options! Choose YOUR challenge!
50, and 75
mile rides loop around the communities of Montrose/Olathe/Delta. Choose your start time from The Red Arrow Inn between 7:00-9:00 a.m. Departure cutoff for these rides is 9:00 a.m.
TheNEW!BC50and the 115 mile Buttkicker take you from the dam at Blue Mesa Reservoir to Hotchkiss or Montrose, respectively. Transportation to the dam departs from The Red Arrow Inn at 6:00 a.m. BC50 riders must be in Hotchkiss no later than 11:30 for return transportation to Montrose.
The 155 mile Individual Gran Fondoand the 155 mile Alpine Bank Team Challenge Gran Fondo take you from Montrose, to Blue Mesa Reservoir, along the rim of the Black Canyon and through the towns of Crawford, Hotchkiss, Delta and Olathe. MASS START AT 5:30 a.m. from The Red Arrow Inn. Riders will have a running clock, with chip timing, from start to finish line. These two options are extremely challenging and demand strong, experienced riders be in top shape to survive the 155 mile route and time limit of 11 hours or less. Cycling training and conditioning is necessary to prepare for this ride.
All rides are supported!
Aid stations, limited mechanical assistance and SAG vehicles are provided along every route. See course maps for aid station locations. Below are times during which each station is operational:
